This issue may not arise frequently – as a matter of fact, you may never see it. However, you can guarantee a headache if it does. Have you ever added a table with colors (i.e. a slope arrows table?) What if the colors don’t show up? Do you know how to get them back?
I ran into this late yesterday afternoon – my table created perfectly, but it had no colors displayed in the color column, as shown below:
It took me a minute to figure out what was going on – I looked in feature settings, object layers, command settings, the table style, and everywhere else that I could think of to find that layer setting. The longer I looked, the more my forehead started hurting from beating it against the desk. At that time, I went into detective mode and just turned on ALL layers – then I found it. When this table is inserted, the table components go on the layer(s) specified in the table style – but there is no layer available for the Surface Range Color component. As such, it goes on the current layer when the table is created. If that layer is turned off, then the colors are turned off. Turning the layer back on turns those colors on. Success!
