If you tried placing spot elevations on the surface that is referenced you may have seen text <XREF moved> placed instead of elevation which you would expect to see. Don’t panic…This indicates that the units in your main drawing and your xref drawing are not the same. This is basically caused by the the transformation that is being applied to the drawing. If you are using imperial units in your main drawing and metric in your xref, Civil 3D is intelligent enough to assume that these spot elevations are not on the same spot.
To resolve this ensure that your units in both drawings are identical.
