Not that settings such as Orientation Reference or Rotation Angle in Label Style Composer don't do their job but there are situations such as the one my customer experienced yesterday. Customer asked if it’s possible to rotate individual (alignment) labels 180 degrees. Changes in style are applied to all objects so the short answer was - "No." Besides the (unpopular) "explode label" and set it on new layer and rotate, there is another way to work around it.
If we create new style to be a copy of the existing style in use and edit Readability Bias to 180 degrees, then apply that new style to the selected labels we'll have what we need - 180 degrees rotated alignment labels. So, here are the steps:
- In Settings tab, expand Alignments>label Styles>Station and select the one that is in use on your alignment (in my example it's "Parallel with Tick") and make copy of it.
- In the Label Style Composer, Information tab gave a name to the new style (i.e. TEST) and then go to General Tab
- In General Tab set Readability Bias to 180.000 (d) and OK
- Now that we have style set to show alignment labels rotated 180 degrees we can apply it to the one or many labels at the same time. The KEY here is to select them individually and change the style in Properties palette. To do that select your alignment on the screen and hold CTRL key which will allow you to select individual labels. In my case I will grab 11+00 and 12+00.
- Then right-click and choose Properties.
- In Major Station field set TEST style as current and close
When done you will get something like this:
