One of the cool features of Civil 3D 2010 is certainly an ability to project objects onto a profile and a section. Especially it looks fancy if you were showing multi-view objects and three dimensional blocks or feature lines.
If you projected some objects to profile view they will show up just fine. But if you happen to create Sheets using Plan Production tools and choose to create your sheets in separate drawings that will not carry these projected objects. This happens because the drawing that's external becomes a reference of the original drawing. As of now, Object Projections are not supported on references. Recently one customer asked if there is a way to do it. To see how click on continue…
The only way I could think of would be to create sheets inside of your original drawing. That way sheets will be created and will not be referenced which will then allow you to project your objects. Assuming that you have alignment and View Frame groups created already these would be steps to follow:
1. Right-click on View Frame Group in Prospector tab and choose Create Sheets
2. In Create Sheets dialog ensure you select All Layouts in the current drawing and click Create Sheets (you may check and adjust other settings if you wish and complete wizard before)
3. Select the profile View you wish to project on and from Contextual tab select “Project Objects to Profile View” and select your object to project.
4. The following dialog will show up and you should select where to project. Ensure you select correct surface.
5. Your object is projected onto a profile and will display in your layout sheet.
I hope this helps. If any of you find more elegant way to do this please let us all know.
