There is nothing better in support then when customer asks and answers the question in one call. This tip is coming from a joined effort from our dear customer Kenneth who asked this question and also came to resolution while we were discussing the approach. So I can only take a partial credit for it. But it’s definitely worth sharing with the rest of our global community.
This issue came when customer had a surface and would like to place a rectangular pool on the ground but wanted to get the points for each corner of the pool. The same logic can be applied for any shapes of buildings, too. If you would like to see the rest please click on continue reading.
So… we decided to start by drawing a rectangle by using a polyline. Then the polyline needed to be converted into a feature line.
1. From Home tab>click on Create Feature Line from Object and then select your rectangle
2. Select Erase existing entities if you want to remove the rectangle and select Assign Elevation.
3. Then in the next dialog chose From Surface and select the surface that your object is laying on
4. Now Civil 3D created a rectangle projecting onto your surface. The next task will then be to create points on all corners.
5. To do it, from Home Ribbon, click on Points>Points Creation tools
6. In Create Points dialog expand Point Creation and set “Prompt For Elevations” to Automatic to avoid being asked to enter elevation and “Prompt For Point Name” to Automatic if you want
7. Then click the create icon and choose Polyline Vertices – Automatic and select the rectangle you have created and you should get something like this.
You just created your stakeout points on corners when in the future your pool/building will stand. Enjoy!
