Some of you may have noticed that when you upgraded from 2009 to the 2010 product that the Part Description had changed from version to version.
Civil 3D 2009: Part Description=Part Name
Civil 3D 2010: Part Description=Part Family
This may or may not have caused confusion to existing Label Styles you may have set up to pull the Part Description as the Part Name, when migrating from 2009 to 2010. Development had chose to make this change because the size information included in the original description became obsolete when and if the part size was changed.
To appeal to users who liked the way it used to be, and also the users that had adopted the new naming convention and built templates off of it, Development added a nice little command setting to toggle between the two options. It can be found in any command that refers to labels in SETTINGS tab>PIPE NETWORK>COMMANDS.
The specific property is under PIPE NETWORK DEFAULTS called USE SIZE NAME FROM PARTS LIST AS DESCRIPTION. The default setting is NO, which keeps it the same as found in 2010, setting this to YES will change it back to the way it used to be in 2009. Don’t you love it when everyone can be happy?
