A while back a user sent me a case asking where she could find simple shapes in Partbuilder. Not being the Partbuilder guru on our team, I was initially unsure what she was even talking about. However, through a little research, I found some structures that I had never seen before – a simple box and a simple cylinder. Well – these are in my catalog, why can’t I see them in my parts lists? As usual, follow the link to find out how.
Just to prove that I’m not crazy, you can see the two shapes in question here in the part catalog:
Since I really don’t know much about these parts (especially why they won’t show up in my parts list,) I’m going to try and edit them. Here is the Simple Box in all of it’s parametric glory:
On a whim, I selected the Options button on the Partbuilder palette.
The options opened up a dialog that I’d never seen before, It only has two options – a custom sizing flag and a hide part flag. The custom sizing flag allows a user to create custom sizes for a particular structure, which is very useful. The other one – I’m not so sure about…but it’s definitely what I’m looking for. This flag specifies where or not the part is suitable to be inserted into a drawing. My assumption is so a CAD manager can be working on some parts and “hide” them from users until they are ready for production. In any case, this is the flag to clear if you want these shapes to show up in your parts list.
Happy part building!
