If you are one of those customers that prefers installing new product after the first Update (or Service Pack) you may be happy see this post. In the next few lines I will explain what some of you already know, so that all can follow.
- Updates are different name for Service Packs
- Civil 3D without Update is called version 1
- Civil 3D with Update 1 is called version 2
- Updates are applicable to all available languages
- Updates are in most cases cumulative and contain previous Updates and hotfixes
- Updates (in most cases) have AutoCAD and Map 3D updates included
- There are exceptions to this rule. For more information always see readme files.
- The easiest way to tell what is the current version you may be running is to type ABOUT in command line or from Help>About
In the next few lines I will try to place all supported Updates with links and to explain the order of install.
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 (This version had 3 Updates)
Goal: install Civil 3D with newest updates. Update 2.1 contains all previous fixes. So, if you are installing fresh and want to have your Civil 3D 2009 up to date, you can just install Update 2.1 and Update 3. Update 3 for Civil 3D is optional but suggested. Here are all available updates for Civil 3D 2009.
- AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Update 1 (fixed issues and hofixes applicable to version 1). See Readme
- AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Update 2.1 (Update 1, Update 2 plus new hotfixes and fixed issues). See Readme
- AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Update 3 (only core AutoCAD issues after Update 2; no Civil issues resolved here). See Readme
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 (This version also had 3 updates)
Goal: install Civil 3D with newest updates. Updates 1 and 2 are also cumulative so if you need to install newest version you can only install Update 2 and then on top of that you would install Update 3.1. Here are all available updates for Civil 3D 2010.

AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 (This version had 2 Updates)
- AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 Update 1 (fixed issues and hotfixes to version 1). See Readme
- AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 Update 2 (fixed isses and hotfixes; Update 1 needed). See Readme
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 (This version will have 2 Updates)
- AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 Update 1 (fixed issues and hotfixes to version 1). See Readme.
- AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 Update 2.1 (all previous hotfixes including Performance Slowdown Hotfix). See Readme.
